WELCOME TO THE BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS
The Bob Marshall Wilderness is legendary and that is what Lazy J Bar O Outfitters offers in our wilderness adventures. We strive to produce an extraordinary experience that will keep you coming back.
Actually comprised of three wilderness areas that were eventually joined, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex encompasses more than 1.5 million acres, putting in the top three largest wilderness areas in the lower 48. This vast expanse of wilderness makes it an ideal home for elk, deer, bear, lynx, wolverine, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, mountain goat and more.
During the summer months, the main attraction is the Bob Marshall's network of rivers which provide some of the finest trout fishing anywhere in Montana - and in the world for that matter. Unlike many wilderness areas in the lower 48 where wilderness fishing is synonymous with small stream fishing, the Bob contains sizable river systems. Deep in the wilderness, anglers here find spectacular trout streams with none of the fishing pressures of the front country.
Our base camp, 16 miles deep in the wilderness, sits just a few hundred yards from some of the best trout fishing anywhere. Our guests enjoy fishing for 12 to 20-plus inch cutthroat in crystal clear water with rarely another soul in sight. Meanwhile, a short horseback ride takes us to the South Fork of the Flathead River, where we can swing streamers through deep pools for giant bull trout.
As summer turns to fall, we shift gears toward hunting season. The highlight of fall hunting in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is the opportunity to hunt bugling elk during the rut with a rifle. This remote wilderness is one of very few places with a rifle season in September. It's a unique opportunity to experience a wilderness elk hunt like no other.
