If you didn’t draw a Montana Big Game Combo License this year, you’re not totally out of luck! There’s still a small chance to draw by signing up for the alternate list. But you must register for the list before the end of June.
Montana nonresident combination tags that have been returned will be up for grabs to those who register on the alternate list. Those who applied in the initial drawing and were unsuccessful will be given priority. If you applied this year and didn’t draw a combo license, it is definitely worth your while.
Here’s how it works. Between now and June 30th, registration is open for the alternate list. After June 30th, registration closes. Each registrant will be assigned a number and a random drawing will be conducted. As new licenses get returned throughout the summer and even into the fall, new names will be drawn from the alternate list.
To sign up for the list, you must log into your MyFWP account. Then, click on the Alternate List tab and simply follow the steps to register. You must select the General Big Game Combo (deer and elk) or the General Deer Combo (deer only). It’s not possible to register for both.
It only takes a few minutes to register and the process is very easy. A little time now could mean the opportunity to hunt elk or deer in Montana this fall.
